Itinerary

Day 1Hoi An- My Son - Hoi An (L)

Spend the half-day admiring the capital and religious center of the ancient Cham kingdom.
My Son, 60 kilometers southwest from Hoi An, is located in a luxuriant valley, where you will discover a dozen of brick towers and sanctuaries from 7th to 13th centuries.

Back to Hoi An, you will have lunch in a local restaurant.

During the afternoon, you will visit the ancient Fai Fo. After being a commercial port at the time of the Cham Empire, the city passed into Chinese hands, trading silk, porcelain, perfumes, tea, lacquer, mother-of-pearl, etc…

When the Thu Bon River’s estuary got stuck in the sand, trade stopped in favor of Da Nang, and Fai Fo, far from the sea, was forgotten. This city, became Hoi An, kept its charm of ancient Asian city. Hoi An is listed Unesco World Heritage since 1999.

Free time to enjoy the beach, stroll in the lovely city, visit the art galleries or the silk shops looking for souvenirs, or ride by bike to the Cua Dai beach, situated 5 kilometers from the center.

Day 2Hoi An - Kim Bong- Tra Nhieu - Tra Que (L)

At first, you will go to the pier, and will take a shuttle to cross the Thu Bon river to Kim Bong, carpenters’ village.

Arrived in Kim Bong, you’ll meet many craftspersons like the men working in the shipbuilding workshop. You will also discover the wood sculptures of Mr. Huynh Ri and the mosaic and the mother-of-pearl craft of Mr. Phuc. So much wealth in a small village !

The bike ride will take you to Mr. Kha’s house, 85 years old, last person in the village making bamboo basket boats. His dexterity will impress you.

Then you will ride to the village Tra Nhieu, located in the middle of the Song Thu River, and will pass from an island to an other, taking bamboo bridges, to finally visit the mats factory. This will be the adventure !

After a beautiful ride, go back to the pier and cross the Song Thu River to discover the market gardeners’ village Tra Que.

Tra Que has 200 owners and 500 farmers, cultivating 20 sorts of vegetables and herbs like mint, salad, basil, coriander, broccoli and others, on more than 50 hectares of ground. They sell 10 tons of vegetables each year.

Known in central Vietnam, vegetables are cultivated with care, the gardeners only use natural fertilizer, including a kind of alga harvested every morning.

In Tra Que, you will be warmly welcomed at Mr. Minh’s house, from a family of three generations. He will give you a welcome drink : his famous « basil juice ».

After that, enjoy a walk in the village to meet the locals cultivating the earth. You will learn everything you need to know about Tra Que’s history, the vegetables growing methods, the use of medicinal plants and the Vietnamese material medical. Friendly moment for sure !

You will participate in the gardening activities like the fertilization of the ground with the algae of the river in company with the gardeners. Who said gardening wasn’t fun ?

Back to Mr. Minh’s house, take advantage of a relaxation time thank’s to a foot massage with medicinal herbs, a traditional therapy practice, very enjoyable.
Your feet will be in a tepid bath with lemongrass and leafs of lemon tree, that will delight your sense of smell.

Then you will prepare the lunch with the Minh Family. On the menu : crunchy pancakes, nems from Hoi An, tam huu, grilled fish in a leaf of banana tree… It’s delicious !
